The School System Improvement Project (SSI) works with 17 charter schools across the state of NJ. All of our school partners serve communities with high needs and high rates of poverty (as defined by 50% or more of students who are eligible for free/reduced lunch). Many of our charters serve school populations with higher rates of students in poverty than their home sending districts. We are proud to offer many benefits to our school charters that allow them to bolster their working budgets including:
Human Capital Management Systems:
- SSI provides all partner schools with a research-based teacher evaluation tool, the Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS). This tool is embedded within a real-time portal that allows school administration to have up to date information about all teachers’ current performance and growth over time.
- SSI provides all partner schools with support to hire, evaluate, and retain teachers.
Teacher Professional Development and Coaching
- Teachers receive extensive training on the SSI project tools and on school-level professional needs, such as classroom management.
- Teachers at all of our partner schools receive personalized and embedded professional development from SSI funded Master Mentor Teachers (MMTs). Master Mentor Teachers are trained by SSI to provide data driven support to teachers in the building that is sustainable, embedded, and relevant to each teacher’s individual needs.
- SSI Staff coach administrators on best practices in teacher evaluation and feedback, and provide support for common needs, such as communication with the State DOE.
- SSI Staff coach teachers individually on project tools.
